Adventure Riding Vacations
Our adventure tours on horseback, based in Oaxaca, Mexico offer the best of equestrian travel. Mary Jane Gagnier personally guides all rides, and with them you will visit her longtime village friends & favorite riding destinations. Unique in North America, the state of Oaxaca is home to two UNESCO-protected biospheres, in the Valle de Tlacolula and La Cañada, as well as the state’s renowned mountain region of the Sierra Juarez.
Horseback Mexico’s equestrian vacations can be as short as overnight riding tours to as long as in-depth weeklong horse treks. With small riding groups, the rides can be at a relaxed pace focused on culture and nature, or for the experienced rider our fit endurance horses love to partner-up for safe yet exhilarating gallops through Oaxaca’s exotic countryside.
Within the state of Oaxaca, Horseback Mexico offers three distinct riding destinations in three unique ecosystems in this southern-most state in Mexico. With great riding weather year round we always have an insider’s riding holiday whenever you can get away. Novices are encouraged to request instruction on their riding vacation. Experienced riders can enjoy fast-paced riding and challenging trails.
The Discover Oaxaca Valley Ride is based at our comfortable country guest ranch Rancho Pitaya, located in the eastern arm of the valley of Oaxaca, know at the Valle de Tlacolula. This ride is offered all year long; archeological sites, Zapotec villages & superb Oaxacan cuisine make this a tried-and-true keeper 12 months a year.
Our Sierra Juarez Village to Village Ride features: exploring on horseback the ruins of silver mining haciendas, riding into deep valleys lined with pristine streams and traversing trails that go back to pre-Hispanci times. Remarkable changes in vegetation and breathtaking vistas distinguish this journey. Mid-October through May.
Descend into Oaxaca’s undiscovered La Cañada for our Valley & Canyon Ride. Ride among the greastest bio-diversity of cacti in the world! Criss-cross pristine streams framed by towering red rock canyon walls. November through February.
Our rides and horses are suitable for all levels. Non-riders are welcomed; we also offer guided hiking & cycling trips. See our 2011/2012 calendar for scheduled vacations or inquire about other dates and itineraries for groups of two to six.
