On our horseback riding day trips our knowledgeable English-speaking guides give you an insiders tour of the valley of Oaxaca or Sierra Juarez, a result of years of exploring on horseback. Endless vistas and exotic birds, plow oxen and horse-drawn carts, towering cacti and agave plantations are just a sample of the visual delights that await you.

Day rides begin with pick-up from our office in the historic center of Oaxaca, at Murguia 403 between Avenida Juarez and Pino Suarez.

Sierra Juarez

Scenic drive to 10.00 ft. where this riding tour begins. Feel the adventure of exploring on horseback the Sierra Juarez renowned for the protected coniferous and giant agave forests of the Pueblos Mancomunados. This is one of Oaxaca’s best ecotourism tours with Amazing views, fresh air and picturesque villages. Lunch at village café. Depart from the city office 8:30 a.m.

Ancient Cacti of the Valley

This guided horseback ride explores the southeastern end of the valley of Tlacolula. Ride ancient trails, rich in old-growth cacti, meander through geologically intriguing terrain. The impressive mesas of Yagul and Caballito Blanco sculpt the vistas to the south. Herders with their goats, campesinos driving plow oxen and an ancient hacienda give this ride a timeless feel. Fresh picnic lunch and optional visit to archeological site.

The 2,000 Yr. Tule Tree

Begin this guided horse riding adventure in the charming cheese-making village of Rojas de Cuauhtemoc - just 20 minutes from the historic center of Oaxaca. On this horseback ride you’ll pass horse-drawn carts & emerald alfalfa fields. Stop for a Oaxacan culinary treat with local cook. Trek on your horse through a rare stand of columnar cacti y ancient palmillos, no other ecotourism excursion tour offers this in the valley of Oaxaca! After the riding tour we visit El Tule, home of the oldest and largest tree on earth lunch. Delicious lunch of Oaxacan specialties at local cafe.
