Samba,
19 years & 15.2 hands, ex-Mexican army gelding

Samba arrived at Casa Sagrada in sad condition. This handsome chestnut had passed through several neglectful owners in the 8 months since the Mexican Army had given him away. I could stick my fingers between his ribs; he needed about 250 lbs. and did to put on - always in possession of a healthy appetite.

Samba is a delight to have around and ride. I say that if he were a two-legged man, he’d be David Niven - drink cognac, wear an ascot and kiss the hands of ladies. A true gentleman what can I say!

John Huss spent a week riding though the valley & foothills in early 2008.

“I grew up on my Grandfather's farm, riding a variety of horses through the fields and up into the woods. Later in life, I took up with Hunter/Jumpers to learn proper equitation (and jumping, of course). I also played low goal polo until a shoulder injury ended that excitement. But, I can truly say I never rode one wonderful horse after another until I rode Bossanova and Samba at the Casa Sagrada. They are both ex-Mexican Army horses, so maybe we shared some sort of military bond (I served in the US Army) or maybe it was just their excellent training and care that made them horses that I would ride anywhere I could and would have bought on the spot if I had brought enough money. When asked, they would respond. When asked for more, they would give more. I look forward to riding them again when I return to the Casa Sagrada”
